Folding Door System Details

Full Overlay Sash

Our folding doors have been designed in the European Tradition of a full overlay of the sash into the jamb. This engineering principle provides the primary transfer of the positive wind pressure onto the contact area created between the merbau sash and the merbau jamb. The sash rails and styles of the folding door units have been developed to match all of the sashes in our entire production line.


Dowel and Coping Construction

The construction and the joinery of the sashes and the jambs is executed in the dowel and coping tradition, providing the strongest connection based on Institut fuer Fenstertechnik in Rosenheim, Germany. We use three dowels at each corner of the sash components. A standard folding door sash would engage 24 dowels in its construction.


Multipoint Locking System

Luxbaum Windows + Doors has pioneered the use of an integrated multi-point locking system in its design of our Folding Door System. This concept eliminates the need for any surface mounted bolts allows for maximum secutiry and visual integrity. A decorative handle drives the locking mechanism along the edge of the sash, its header and its sill. This decision has been recognized as unique in the industry of hurricane tested Folding Door Systems.

Dual Gaskets

The design of the sash and its dual gasket system assure that no hardware components are exposed to the weather. The location of the primary gasket at the outside edge of the sash seals the airspace between the sash and the jamb, thereby protecting all other hardware components from corrosion.


Pre Drilled Fasteners

All penetrations for fasteners are pre-drilled and coated to avoid bleeding cause by the high mineral content and pigments of the wood, unto adjoining surfaces during the installation. All fasteners are covered by a filler strip to trim out the installation.


A Range of Muntin Designs

A selection of muntins is available in fourteen different widths and designs, ranging from 13/16” to 2 13/16” in width. Folding door units are completely pre-finished in the factory. The selection includes fourteen different stain colours and thousands of opaque finishes as per the available RAL colour-chart.


Attention to Detail

Our success is based on the extraordinary qualities of the wood, called Merbau and the immaculate attention to the engineering and quality control during the fabrication of the units. We have engineered a corner sash, employing a multi-point locking system, enabling the design of “disappearing corners”.
